When you hear the name Carroll Shelby, you think Ford Mustangs. While they may be the vehicles he's most famous for, Shelby is no one-trick pony. To drive home the point, Shelby Automobiles has unveiled the new Shelby F-150 Super Snake pickup.
"Carroll Shelby pioneered the muscle truck segment over 20 years ago," said Amy Boylan, president of Shelby Autos. "Our team built this concept F150 Super Snake to see if the public is ready for another high-performance Shelby truck. We took the same approach to this project as we do for every Shelby. With its 'look at me' styling, earth shattering power, stop-on-a-dime brakes and go cart-like handling, it's a balanced performance truck that's as desirable to drive as it is to look at."
To make it worthy of the Shelby name, it had to be a powerhouse, so Shelby added a Ford Racing Whipple supercharger and a Borla exhaust to bump the 5.4L V-8's power to 475 hp driving the rear wheels only through a six-speed automatic transmission. Six-piston Baer brakes, meanwhile, handle stopping duties while a DJM suspension lowers the truck 3 inches on its 22-in wheels, which were custom-made for Shelby by Alcoa.

For a look to match the performance, Shelby crafted a new hood, grille, and front fascia as well as front and rear fenders and rear fascia with a special tonneau cover. A rear lip spoiler, carbon-fiber front splitter, and black vinyl stripes complete the look. The interior, meanwhile, is upgraded with two-tone black and red leather, a Shelby dash plaque and Shelby-embroidered head rests and floor mats.
If a Shelby truck to tow your Shelby Mustang to the track sounds like an awesome idea to you, you'll need to fork over $29,995 and your 2005 to 2008 short bed, Super Cab, 2WD, 5.4L V-8 powered Ford F-150. Shelby is working on a package for 2009 and 2010 models, but is still working the bugs out of the electronics. If you just want the appearance package without the Super Snake badges and performance upgrades, Shelby will set you up with it for just $15,995.
