bmw concept x1

bmw concept x1Following the success of its X5, X3, and X6 four-seater, BMW  is looking to further expand the new "Sports Activity Vehicle" segment, and has debuted a new ride in Paris, aimed at buyers who want a premium crossover in a more compact, urban-friendly package -- the new Concept X1 CUV.
Calling it "the world's first Sports Activity Vehicle in the premium compact segment," BMW's Concept X1 is based on the 1 Series, and at 175.5-in. long with a 104.4-in. wheelbase is the smallest hauler in the automaker's stable. However despite being approximately 4.3-in. shorter than an X3, it sports many of the same styling cues of its larger cousins, including a prominent character line along each side, a wide, planted stance, a variation of BMW's signature SUV front end, and a distinctive "Hoffmeister Kink" on the d-pillar. Presently, powertrain details are scarce, but given the vehicle's 1 Series underpinnings a version of its 230-hp, 3.0L inline-six cylinder is expected, along with a 204-hp twin-turbo diesel four cylinder currently available in Europe. Given its appeal to active lifestyle customers, the X1 will likely include a version of BMW's X-Drive system as well.
In addition to its length, at 79.6-in. wide and 60.4-in. high the Concept X1 is designed to be small enough to navigate narrow urban streets and fit into smaller parking spaces while still providing the space of a CUV and BMW's highly-regarded driving dynamics. Though the X1 being shown at Paris is still just a concept, it previews a production version that the automaker says should go on sale within a year
